JOB: Fellowship – The New York Times – NYC

Join the 2019 New York Times Fellowship class as a photographer.

The New York Times is a worldwide leader in photojournalism, earning multiple Pulitzer Prizes and World Press Photo awards in recent years and establishing standards for excellence and innovation that have been influential across the industry. Photography is a central part of our identity. Our photographers bear witness to events around the world, and our Photo department is one of the treasures of our newsroom.

The photography fellows will work with Times photo editors, shooting daily assignments for many sections. The goal is to give the fellows exposure to news, feature and sports photography, as well as the opportunity to learn about news judgment, editing choices, building visual narratives, lighting techniques and aesthetic direction.

Working closely with photo editors, the fellows will also be expected to initiate enterprise projects.

The most competitive candidates will be college graduates or postgraduates or budding journalists of any age who have had internships or equivalent experience. Applicants should submit a résumé and portfolio reflecting a cross-section of their best work: portraits, features, sports and hard news.

These are guild positions.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. The deadline to submit an application for this yearlong program is 11:59 p.m., New York time on November 19, 2018.

The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve. Our journalism and the products we build in the service of that journalism greatly benefit from a range of perspectives, which can only come from diversity of all types, across our ranks, at all levels of the organization. Achieving true diversity and inclusion is the right thing to do. It is also the smart thing for our business. So we strongly encourage women, veterans, people with disabilities, people of color and gender nonconforming candidates to apply.
