The Post and Courier, winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and a two-time Pulitzer finalist in 2016, is looking for a videographer to join our visuals team.
The right candidate will be a gifted visual storyteller, primarily through video, with a track record of working collaboratively across the newsroom. This visual journalists’ primary responsibility will be video but candidates with exceptional photography skills are preferred. This self-starter will generate his or her own ideas or work well with other editors on a variety of assignments in a fast-paced environment. We aren’t just looking for volume. Rather, The Post and Courier is seeking an individual who is committed to this craft, using video to tell engaging stories that will resonate deeply with our various audiences.
We are looking for candidates with familiarity with Canon DSLR gear and Adobe Creative Suite. Candidates should also be able to script and storyboard. Proficiency in lighting and sound on location and in the studio, including green screen keying, is a significant plus. Experience creating graphics and animations in Adobe After Effects would be helpful. Have a commercial drone pilot license? Even better.
Who are we? The Post and Courier is one of the few independent, family-owned newspapers left in the United States. Our local owners have deep roots in the community and care deeply about this newspaper and its reputation.
Better yet, that ownership translates into a growing newspaper that has added staff and is expanding its Sunday print distribution. Yes, you read that right. We’ve added thousands of new Sunday newspaper readers in the last few months via an aggressive statewide expansion, and we expect to add thousands more in the coming months. We’ve also doubled the size of our state capital bureau, added a Washington correspondent to cover national affairs and are beefing up our team further with this position and several new digital hires.
On the digital side, we’re aggressively pushing every digital boundary you can imagine. No idea is too crazy or too big. Oh, yeah, did we mention you’d be living minutes from the beach and in a city routinely ranked as one of the best places in the world to visit or live? There’s that, too.
If you think you fit the bill, send a resume, a cover letter and examples of your best work to Visuals Editor Matthew Fortner at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Post and Courier is a drug-free and equal opportunity employer.
