This photographer provides photographic coverage of spot news, enterprise and sports, primarily in Cincinnati, but also for the state as a whole and the greater region as required. This person works closely with the Regional Photo Editor based in Philadelphia, Pa., to ensure planning and coverage of news, sports and enterprise for Ohio as well as the larger East region. He/she generates projects that add a dimension beyond the daily report. The incumbent helps develop and maintain a network of freelance photographers, including making and monitoring assignments. He/she maintains close contact with member photographers and encourages contributions to the photo report.
The photographer covers national assignments as required and travel is required. All candidates must have superior news judgment and the photographic skills to cover a wide variety of events competitively, as well as demonstrated ability to generate strong photos beyond scheduled assignments. Skills include a sharp sense of photocomposition, the ability to compose as events unfold and tell a story photographically. Creativity is critical, as well as the ability to meet deadlines. The candidate must be able to edit digital images and transmit using appropriate technology. Proficiency in writing captions that are accurate and informative is essential. Multimedia and video skills are a plus. This person must be self-motivated, well organized, as well as flexibility to juggle priorities; good planning skills are essential. He/she must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Interpersonal skills to deal constructively with co-workers, freelancers and members are paramount.
The candidate must be eager and able to work as part of a team, to work effectively and independently.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
