The Free Lance-Star, a 50k circulation daily based in Fredericksburg, VA, is now accepting applications for its 2015 winter-spring internship.

Interested applicants must be motivated and self-starting. We are looking for someone who will add a spark of energetic enthusiasm to a veteran team that includes three full-time photojournalists and a director of photography.

The photo intern will be expected to work on a long-term project during this period in addition to daily assignments, a rotating photo column and our photo blog “Back Focus.” The work schedule is rotating and flexible, but does include night and weekend shifts.

The FLS has a web-first attitude, so ability to work and transmit from the field is a must. The intern will also be expected to build slideshows using SlideShowPro Director and create blog posts using the WordPress platform – we will teach these skills as necessary.

Photo intern must provide his/her own reliable transportation, camera body, basic lenses. The intern will have access to a MacBook Pro laptop and pool photography equipment (Nikon camera gear, long glass, lighting gear, etc).

Pay is $7.25/hour plus mileage. The work schedule is 40 hours per week. The internship will start in early January. Ending date is flexible, but would need to be sometime in the month of June.
