Salary: $23.42 – $31.68 per hour
Montgomery College, Advancement Media & Public Relations, has need for a full-time, Photographer, position #S03659. Work schedule is Monday Friday, 8:30 am 5:00 pm, some occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Job Summary: Under supervision/direction, the incumbent serves all levels of the College community. As an integral part of the College’s creative team in the Office of Communications, the incumbent uses photography to assist in shaping the College’s publications as well as its online presence. Manages incoming photography requests, including photographing people, places, College activities, and campus events. Edits and processes photos as necessary for print, web and/or social media publications. Collaborates and/or takes the lead as appropriate in ensuring that photographs successfully convey the College’s story through images.
Example of Essential Functions may include:
Performs all of the College’s photography in-house. Independently manages all incoming photography requests.
Discusses photography shoot expectations with the requester and/or graphic designers.
Determines most appropriate camera/lens combination and lighting. Evaluates locations and prepares backgrounds.
Applies both off camera and studio lighting as needed to successfully complete assignments (including complicated advanced architectural photography, marketing photography, sports photography, and portraits).
Composes photos and photographs people, places, activities, and events for print, web, or social media publication.
Edits and color corrects photos using appropriate design programs.
Develops, maintains, and updates network server to archive and safely store College photographic and graphic design images.
Converts photos to JPEG, tags the metadata, labels and uploads to server archive for future retrieval. Manages all College photo library archiving.
Distributes photos using social media and in-house distribution to promote the College.
Performs project management as needed including coordination with various craft imagery that matches specific need levels of faculty, staff, and students.
Works in close coordination with College designers and writers to craft imagery that matches specific needs and objectives.
Oversees and manages the College’s Flickr account (a social media tool). Selects, processes, and posts images that positively portray the College.
Associate’s degree in photography, communications, or a related field that included coursework in photography. Any combination of education, training, and experience providing an understanding of the field.
Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a professional photographer in journalism or a related field that requires journalistic style photography.
Knowledge of 35mm digital cameras, lenses, and proper applications of lenses.
Knowledge of preferred photographic lighting techniques.
Knowledge of both generally accepted and creative techniques to photograph people, places, and events. Knowledge of network servers used to archive and safely store photographic and graphic design images.
Knowledge of social media tools, and Microsoft Office software.
Skill in evaluating and preparing backgrounds, application of both off camera and studio lighting as needed to successfully complete assignments (including complicated advanced architectural photography, marketing photography, and sports photography).
Must have basic graphic design skills using Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop for small projects as needed, as well as a working understanding of the graphic design process in order to interface with the graphic designers and work as a team.
Ability to work independently and effectively photograph people, places, activities and events for print, web, or social media publication, and determine the most appropriate camera/lens combination and lighting for specific assignments.
Ability to develop, maintain, and update network servers to archive and safely store photographic, graphic design images, convert photos to JPEG, tag metadata label, and upload to server archive for future retrieval.
