“Legal Stranger” documentary showing

From Pierre Kattar:

A short documentary I edited this year, “Legal Stranger”, is screening this Thursday as part of the DC Shorts Film Festival. This is the world premiere of the film. It’s playing with a few other short films. A discussion with the director and co-editor, Amanda Lucidon will follow the screening. The two main characters, Amy and Alex will aslo be there Thursday. If you’re in town, I would love to see you there.

About the film

“Legal Stranger” is a short documentary about two women, Amy and Alex, who were legally married in DC in 2010. Eager to start a family, they went through artificial insemination process to conceive a child only to discover that Alex is banned from adopting her own child in the state of VA.

The film is part of a larger project called “The Legal Stranger Project”. Through contemporary interviews and verite style footage, The Legal Stranger Project documents a series of stories conveying the disparities encountered by same-sex couple. Under DOMA, they are “legal strangers.”
