I just got some great news: I won the WHNPA Fall 2008 Lecture Grant so I can visit Syracuse University this spring to lecture to Bruce Strong and David Sutherland’s photojournalism students about my work and the WHNPA project grant I won in 2006.

I am so thankful to live in Washington, DC and be a member of such a great organization like the White House News Photographer’s Association! Truly. It’s a pretty wonderful thing to be able to belong to a group which supports photographers’ ambitions to give back to members of the student community.

Thanks to Chairman Leighton Mark and all the members of the Grant Committee for this awesome award! I am so thankful to be able to give back to my alma mater!

One of my old students has her own pet photography studio/business in New York and the galleries are so much fun. You’ll find yourself giggling and smiling even after a dozen images. What a great job!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you know I tried out You Send It upon recommendation from another Jamie’s Lister and I really like it. If your website isn’t one that allows you to upload images and have clients download them, this is a good and CHEAP way to do that. Digital Railroad of course allows you to do this and more.  You can read John Harrington’s back archives about his DRR experience: http://photobusinessforum.blogspot.com/.

However, http://www.yousendit.com/ is a good way to send files w/o blocking people’s email addresses up and not worrying about FTP woes. Even the most technologically lost client will be able to figure out the “click here to download” buttons! :)

cheers, Jamie

And to kick off my return from across the Pond is this great, cheap event at one of my favorites places here in DC:

Join the Sewall Belmont House & Museum and local artists from the Project 3: Empowered by Artistry exhibit as they introduce visitors, through hands-on activities, to various types of art, including collage, t-shirt design, postcards to exchange across the globe, magnets, and meditative arts and global healing workshops.

Visitors are welcome to view the Project 3 exhibit as well as see the permanent exhibits in the Museum such as the suffrage banners, political cartoons, and learn about the woman’s suffrage and equal rights movement in the United States.

Sewall-Belmont House & Museum
144
Constitution Ave., NE (next to the Hart Senate Office Building)
Washington, DC 20002

RSVP here!

Fee: $5.00 per person

Project 3: Empowered by Artistry consists of a collaboration of local arts organizations dedicated to social justice issues, making a difference, both locally and globally, through individual creativity and fine arts. The exhibit features work from artists across the globe expressing the strength and power of women and raises money for the Girls Gotta Run Foundation and Arts for Global Development.

Interesting slideshow about how photographs of the military are controlled and how the photographers who cover Iraq were treated when certain images reached the public. Could be a great classroom discussion project for photojournalism classes in the fall!
