The next of my Jamie’s Charities suggestions for the end of the year giving is the amazing Ripple Effect Images. Read more about them here and the links to donate are below.

Remember: If you donate $10 a day for the rest of the year, you’d get a tax deduction & spend less than a night out for dinner!

Ripple Effect Images is a team of journalists dedicated to documenting the plight of poor women and girls around the world, and highlighting the programs that are helping to empower them, especially as they deal with the devastating effects of climate change. Working closely with scientists and NGOs to identify both the needs and the innovative programs that are helping women and girls, Ripple Effect journalists make strategic trips to document these programs. They then donate their photographs, video, and stories to the Ripple Effect Images Archive . This Archive is made available, at no cost, to our partner aid organizations and to policymakers who are working to help poor women as they deal with the tremendous challenges caused by climate change. The extraordinary Ripple Effect team includes a MacArthur Genius Fellow, as well as Pulitzer Prize, Emmy Award, and National Humanities Medal winners.

Donate to Ripple Effects here and change a woman’s life.

Ripple Effect Images is a registered 501 (c) (3) organization

From the ever amazing Noelle at FotoKonbit:

Friends and supporters,

FotoKonbit has had a busy year!  We have permanently established our
base in Haiti and are gearing up for our newest workshops in August.
Our 2011 accomplishments so far include a Time lightbox article,
exhibitions in Port-au-Prince, Miami, and Barbados, and a featuring in
the LOOK 3 Festival of the Photograph.  We have worked with over 100
FotoKonbit participants in Haiti, and we are growing, but we need your
help!

Here are some ways you can support us for our upcoming August workshops:

Check out our B&H wishlist, for as little as $25, you can purchase
some of the supplies we will need:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/wl/413BFE988C

Donate your old (or new) DSLR camera.  Our students need all the
cameras they can get and will make the most of your donations.  If you
are in the NYC area, we can come pick them up, otherwise we can
provide you a mailing address.

You can also make a tax-deductible contribution to help us build our
first FotoKonbit photo studio by making a donation:
http://www.fotokonbit.org/#/how-you-can-help

Please be sure to make your contributions by MONDAY AUGUST 1 so that
we get them in time for our workshops.

Also, please spread the word far and wide!  We are a small
organization making a big impact on the lives of our participants, and
we can only do it with your help.

All the very best,

The FotoKonbit team

This just in from a colleague who works for a nonprofit that gives healthy vegetables to food banks. They need your help and it’s a really worthwhile cause that is close to home. Even $10 would help. Please consider donating:

Hello everyone. During the second blizzard of 2010 the nonprofit I work for has lost three cold frames that house organically grown vegetables for the Maryland Food Bank. Therapeutic Alternatives of Maryland (TALMAR) grows these vegetables and gives them away free of charge to the Maryland Food Bank and other businesses and individuals in need.

Cold frames are large semi-circle, transparent structures used for agriculture and gardening to protect plants from the cold weather. Cold frames allow us to extend our growing season in the winter. At this time we are not able to replace these cold frames due to the cost. We are looking for support from our community.

We need to raise $4,347.00 for three new cold frames. To donate, please visit our donation page at https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx?ORGID2=522165052 or call us at 410-825-2020.

TALMAR is a nonprofit organization established to provide a therapeutic and recreational environment offering horticulture and other complementary modalities to the community. More information is available online at www.talmar.org. Thank you for your generous support!

This year for Valentine’s Day, One Mango Tree, a charity in Northern Uganda which trains women in a sewing trade, is kicking off their “Share the Love” campaign.

It started as a fun product made from scrap fabric and herbs. However, the favorite holiday of lovebirds happens to fall around the same time as the new year’s first school term in Uganda.

In their sewing workshop, that means that among the tailors, 84 children will be hurried off to nursery, primary or secondary school this month. This send-off is a labor of love, even more so when you learn that almost half of these children are orphans – children of relatives, friends and neighbors who were killed during the war.

Learn more and buy a $20 herb scented heart to support one child’s school term here:

Hey everyone!

As most of us are in the media, I would like to strongly suggest support NPR with your membership. As you may agree, I think NPR is one of the greatest supporters of multimedia and quality journalism both online and on air. I give in monthly installments which makes it a lot easier than one huge lump sum. WAMU’s annual membership campaign is going on and all membership fees are tax deductible. So give early, give often. Keep the programs alive! :)

You will photograph every day with instructors and staff helping you craft a narrative documentary essay on Andean culture and history.

WPOW members will receive a 10% discount on this trip and special discounts are available for students and working female photographers.

Momenta is working with WPOW on this fundraising trip for all the logistics. Everyone at Momenta is proud to do a benefit workshop to help build up this great nonprofit. You can find all the workshop information at http://www.momentaworkshops.com/bolivia09.php.
